Link Building and Methods of Building Links

Link building is the method of getting other Websites to link to your Website. Link building is a central part of online marketing for three main reasons:
  • When the search engines are indexing and ranking your Website to decide how high up to place it on the search results pages, they look at how many Websites link to yours. They look at the quality of the linking Website and at how relevant the content is to your content.
  • Links from other Websites generate traffic directly to your Website, and if they are good links on relevant sites, the traffic should be well targeted.
  • Links create your online status and influence. If readers in your industry keep finding references to you and your Website on a lot of the sites they visit, it builds their trust in you which results in building traffic.
Ways of Building Links
Article Submissions –
Whenever you provide free articles, news, or other content, always ensure that your name and web address are provided. Give articles to many article distribution services or pay to join some paid article submission services, which will submit your article to dozens of distribution sites. Write articles for your industry's sites. Watch for who uses your articles and contact them directly to see whether you can provide any additional material. Write press releases and distribute them.

Social Bookmarking – Many Internet users now have one or more bookmarking accounts they use. Make sure it is easy for them to add your Website to the bookmarked list. Ask your friends to bookmark your particular article. If you get a front-page listing, it can drive thousands of visitors to your Website, some of whom may create direct links to the article.

Industry, Supplier and Local Links – Join online schemes. See if your local chamber of commerce or other business support group has a Website where you can get listed. Identify local directories. Often they have a free listing section for local businesses. Find out if your local newspaper has a Website? There may be a link section. Get your site listed on the local library Web site.

Blogosphere – Start your own blog related to your specialist subject area. Keep the content relevant, timely, personalized and interesting. Get links to the blog and create links from the blog.
