All about My Doom/Novar Virus

My Doom/Novar virus is identified on January 26, 2004. It propagates mainly through email attachments and infects Windows-based workstations and servers. Attachment with a .exe, .scr, .zip, pif, .cmd, or .bat extension are particularly considered to carry dangerous virus Novar.

It creates a “back door” into the system by establishing a file (proxy server). This helps a hacker to connect to the system and use the proxy to gain access or connection to the computer’s network resources. This virus finds addresses not only in Address Books but also in text and HTML documents. The attached file containing the virus uses a Microsoft Windows icon that seems to be a harmless text file or screen saver fooling or misleading the users.

My Doom virus when executed opens up Windows' Notepad with rubbish data in it. As on February 12, 2004, it is found that My Doom/Novar virus stopped spreading. This virus can be removed from system with Symantec free tool.

Things To Do Just Before Moving From Your Home

These are some of the tips you should consider when you are moving from your apartment to a new one. I am sharing this from an experience I had when I am moving from California to one of the apartments in Orlando. Take a good set of pictures of the whole apartment, showing the condition in which you have left it. As soon as you have finished taking the pictures, leave the apartment, turn off all lights, and lock up for the last time. Have your friend watch as you seal all the keys in an envelope. Have your friend come with you as you turn in the keys, leave them at the landlord's office, or mail them to the landlord. Include a brief letter to the landlord stating the date and what keys are enclosed, and keep a copy of the letter.

Sometimes a landlord will see the movers, think you've finished moving, and not realize that you planned to return to pick up a few remaining items, do a final clean-up, and take pictures. Then, the landlord may come in, clean out whatever you've left in the apartment, and even change the locks while it is still legally your apartment. To prevent this, make sure you let your landlord know your moving plans, explicitly and in writing. And, of course, keep a copy of the letter or e-mail for your own records. Your landlord may be totally honest and not give you any problem about the condition in which you left your apartment. But even if you have gotten along well with your landlord, it is better to follow this and be safe rather than sorry.

Tips To Improve Your Golf Swing

Most golfers will admit that golf is 90% mental, yet most spend all their time and efforts on the mechanical aspect of the game. The golfing industry hasn't helped the trend by breaking down the swing and analyzing each of its components. While, the average handicap for club players is still the same as it was 20 years ago. Even with all the new technology in equipment and video analysis.

Everyone seems to be teaching or learning the perfect swing, but little do people realize that almost no one has a perfect swing, not even the pros. Each of us has a certain way of swinging the club, even if we are taught the correct way in the beginning. Negative feelings have a lot to do with our swing. If you have a good swing, and negative thoughts, you still will not play good golf. Most players are distracted and not totally concentrating on their shot at one time or another. Each time this happens, you can lose a stroke or two. If this happens only 4-5 times a round, it could add a lot of strokes to your score.

The main principles behind good golf are simple. You must be able to focus on the task at hand and stay in the present, then pick a small target and empty all unwanted thoughts from your mind.

Glassware Care & Cleaning

It is very important that glassware is used and stored properly to prevent failure or injury. Any scratches, whether noticeable or not, greatly reduces its strength. Whenever possible, do not let glass apparatus contact metal, grit or even other glassware. Plastic stirring rods and scrapers should be used to prevent scratches and prolong glassware life. Glass should not be scribed or etched. This is especially important when it is to be used for pressure or vacuum work. Hear are some important tips of cleaning and caring your glassware.
  • All glassware should be inspected frequently. Bring to the Glass Shop at first sign of damage for evaluation or repair.
  • Clean and dry glassware as soon as possible prior to storing. Dirty glassware gets harder to clean over time.
  • Re-grease joints and stopcocks often. This is especially important for vacuum work.
  • When not in use, remove and clean all stoppers, adapters and plugs to prevent “sticking” problems.
  • Cover all metal rods with rubber tubing before storing flasks or apparatus on them.
  • If glassware or quartz ware is to be heated, it must be triple rinsed in deionizer or distilled water after cleaning and dried thoroughly. This will ensure contaminates are not burned onto glassware permanently. When handling quartz you should always wear clean cotton gloves to prevent oil on your hands from contaminating and causing the onset of diversification.

Avoid Replying To Spam

Spammers do regard responses to their messages like “Don't spam me” as an indication that the link is valid. Similarly many spam messages may contain Web links or addresses which the user is directed to follow in order to remove himself from the spammer's list but alas he is caught in the vicious circle of the spammer resulting in him being led to more spam as also tested by spam fighters. Sender's addresses are most often forged while sending spam and sometimes the recipient may find that the mail comes from his email address itself, the result is that responding to spam may result in failed deliveries or the innocent persons getting bulk messages. In Usenet, it is considered very important to avoid responding to spam. Many ISPs have software that tends to seek and destroy duplicate messages. Sometimes the users may respond to spam, before their server, which creates an illusion of reposting the spam for them, cancels it and this may last even longer since it is not considered as a duplicate.

The Art and Skill of Shooting a Basketball

I want to share some basketball shooting tips which I have collected in some articles and some literature in my library. They are as follows:

  • Set up with foot opposite the shooting hand a little in front of the other.
  • Always eye on your target. Focus on the front top of the rim.
  • Keep the ball close to your body with your chest high and elbows in.
  • Bend knees vaguely.
  • Don't let the ball rest on your palm. Let it rest on your fingertips like you're carrying a waiter's tray.
  • Keep your shoulders square to the basket and maintain good balance.
  • Keep your guide-hand just that - a guide. Just let it rest comfortably at the side of the ball.
  • Have good control of your fingertips. Let the ball come off your fingertips for a nice, "light" shot.
  • Create a good backspin. The ball will roll off your fingertips if you follow through correctly. In your follow through, extend your elbow and snap your wrist. This creates the proper backspin.
  • Keep the back of your hand toward your face and palms faced toward the hoop. When the ball leaves your hand, keep your head moving up and directly towards the hoop.
  • Keep a medium arch to your shot. Not too high and not a straight arrow. Arch!
  • Use your legs for power.
  • Achieve quickness through proper wrist action and fingertip control.
  • In order to select the proper shots, get to know your range and skill.
  • Don't keep experimenting with your shooting form. Find what works and then develop it.
  • Always practice your shots at game speed.
  • Take shots you're most likely to face in a real game - invest more of your time developing these shots.
  • If you don't develop the proper quickness to your shots, there is a very good possibility you'll be blocked.
  • Know when to take the shot. If you can't finish the shot with your head moving up and slightly forward and your shoulders squared away, you might generally want to re-think that shot attempt.

Common Mistakes in Mutual Fund Investing

Appropriate asset allocation, effective diversification and suitable fund selections are some of the fundamental goals that every investor should desire in a mutual fund portfolio. Whether an investor is in one of the various stages of asset growth or in asset removal, these goals are necessary for mutual fund portfolios to be successful. However, an investor can come across many roadblocks or pitfalls in the quest to attain these goals.Investment decisions without any strategy, probably the most frequent mistake in mutual fund investing. Many investors may actually define and identify their investment objectives, but then skip the next vital step in establishing a successful mutual fund portfolio: creating a detailed asset allocation strategy. Without a well-defined, appropriate asset allocation strategy that accurately reflects individual investment objectives and preferences (time horizon, return objectives, risk tolerance, etc), the selection of mutual funds is haphazard instead of a logical, clear-cut process. On the other hand, effective diversification is a direct result of an appropriate detailed asset allocation strategy that fits individual investment objectives and preferences. Effective diversification spreads investment assets among different fund categories to achieve both a variety of distinct risk/reward objectives and a reduction in overall risk. Proper asset allocation not only reduce adverse characteristics of over-weighting, under-weighting and inappropriate funds, it accurately matches fund categories and their percentage of portfolio assets to specified objectives.

Establishing a successful mutual fund portfolio is a three-step process:
  • Identifying investment objectives and preferences, including portfolio amount, return objectives, time horizon and risk tolerance.
  • Formulating a detailed asset allocation strategy by fund type category to reflect chosen objectives.
  • Suitable fund selection to match each category.

The second step is the most challenging due to the abundance of asset allocation theories and strategies. Most asset allocation strategies fall into two groups: one primarily treats risk as a stock/bond allocation, with risk tolerance changing the percentage of stock and bond funds; the other is primarily a fund category allocation, with risk tolerance affecting the type of fund categories and their allocation percentages within a basic stock/bond allocation.

All about Vehicle Fluid Maintenance

The vehicle's fluids are very important and should be checked regularly. These fluids include the following:
  • Brake Fluid - This check is done by loosening the clip on the master cylinder and removing the lid. If fluid is needed, consult the vehicle owner's manual for correct type and fill to recommended level.
  • Engine Oil - Correct engine oil level should be maintained to assure proper lubrication of your vehicle's engine. It is best to check engine oil level approximately five minutes after a fully warmed up engine is turned off or before starting the engine after is has sat for a long period of time. Remove the engine oil dipstick, wipe the dipstick clean with a lint-free cloth or paper towel. Reinsert dipstick until it fully seats in its tube. Remove dipstick and read oil level. Add oil only when the level is at or below the add oil mark.
  • Power Steering Fluid - This check is done by removing and checking the dipstick. The dipstick is attached to the cap of the power steering fluid reservoir. Use the dipstick to check fluid level in the same manner as you would check engine oil.
  • Transmission/Transaxle Fluid - This check should be done while the engine is running in neutral with the parking brake securely set. The transmission should be at operating temperature. Remove dipstick, wipe clean, insert and remove again to check fluid level. But, do not overfill!
  • Windshield Washer Solvent - This check should be done by removing the cap and reservoir and refilling with solvent.
  • Antifreeze - This check is done by removing the radiator cap from the cool engine and refilling, if needed, with antifreeze.

Home Gardening through Green Houses

Most of us love spending time in our home garden. Due to harsh weather every year, some of us change plants because they are unable to cope up in different climates. There is a solution for this problem, greenhouse. This protects the plants from hottest summer and freezing winters. Just install it in your garden and keep your garden green and health throughout year.

With this, you can grow almost any type of plant and allows you to have a wide variety of plants in garden. Different types of green house instruments are available and choose the appropriate one, like wooden, aluminum etc.

Wooden greenhouses are made up of cedar wood for making the frames and highly durable, the odor of wood keeps the pests away from plants. With use of wooded greenhouse, you have to deal with fewer pests.

It retains the heat in the garden in winter and it prevents excessive heat build up in summer.

Global Positioning System - Simplified Method Of Operation

A typical GPS receiver calculates its position using the signals from four or more GPS satellites. Four satellites are needed since the process needs a very accurate local time, more accurate than any normal clock can provide, so the receiver internally solves for time as well as position. In other words, the receiver uses four measurements to solve for 4 variables - x, y, z, and t. These values are then turned into more user-friendly forms, such as latitude/longitude or location on a map, and then displayed to the user.

Each GPS satellite has an atomic clock, and continually transmits messages containing the current time at the start of the message, parameters to calculate the location of the satellite (the ephemeris), and the general system health (the almanac). The signals travel at a known speed - the speed of light through outer space, and slightly slower through the atmosphere. The receiver uses the arrival time to compute the distance to each satellite, from which it determines the position of the receiver using geometry and trigonometry (trilateration)

Although four satellites are required for normal operation, fewer may be needed in some special cases. For example, if the local time is known very precisely (to atomic clock accuracy), or one variable is already known (for example, a sea-going ship knows its altitude is 0), a receiver can determine its position using only three satellites. Also, in practice, receivers use additional clues (Doppler shift of satellite signals, last known position, dead reckoning, inertial navigation, and so on) to give degraded answers when less than four satellites are visible.

Increase in Drug Abuse

According to the British Crime Survey Report for 2008-09, almost one million people use cocaine in the UK. This is the largest number of usage in the past 12 years and seems to be influenced by reduced price of the narcotic and an ease of supply.

The review focuses that half of the users of cocaine are aged between 16 and 24 and also the increase in the use of the drug ketamine in the same age group. Approximately 125,000 young people used the horse tranquillizer last year.

According to the survey conducted by the NHS Information Center for 2008 revealed that one in five children aged 11 to 15 agreed that they drank alcohol in the week before the survey was conducted and the average consumption was estimated at 12.7 units a week, equivalent to six pints of beer, or 13 glasses of wine.

There is a reduction in the number of children who drink but those who drink are drinking much more. The young people who are now drinking at or above safe adult levels, yet their bodies are less able to cope with the harm alcohol can cause.

The new trends of paid care

People have become much busier these days. They don’t even have time to look after themselves, where can they allocate time for their sick family member or elderly parents? The concept here has given rise to new careers of caregivers.

We had this thing earlier, but as baby sitting - care-giving to children whose parents had no time to take care of them. But now it extended from children to disabled or sick adults and the old. It is fetching jobs for some; taking care of family members on behalf of some; and helping some from being all alone at home without any assistance.

Since, it is helping people in so many ways, no wonder that it has become so popular. However, care-giving need not be paid every time. Many people and organizations do it for free as a service to the society.

San Diego County Apartment Rental Market in a Gloom

The weakening economy has brought down the house rates as well as rental rates in many places. As the economy is in gloom all over the world, this trend of plummeting house rentals is also seen in many places of the world. A new study said that rentals in San Diego County apartment market fell along with the occupancy rates.

The San Diego County of California is located near the Pacific Ocean with around 3,146,274 of population. The apartment rates in the year 2008 fell suddenly to around 1.8 percent compared to the previous year. The occupancy rates also saw a 0.11 percent fall compared to the occupancy rates of 2007.

The jobless is also one of the reasons for the fall in rental prices. But the situation is not as bad.

There are around 99,256 rental units within the county, where the average asking price for rent is seen as $1,394.

The Integration of Drug Abuse System into Criminal Justice System Might Help Many

National Institute of Drug Abuse released a press release recently saying that there are lots of prisoners who don’t get proper drug abuse treatment.

It said that there are many prisoners, who might do well if they are given proper drug abuse treatment, do not receive it.

NIDA has spent two decades on researching this poor state of prisoners and the ineffective criminal justice system against drug abuse.

According to the report, about half of the prisoners are dependent on drugs but only less then 20 percent of them gets proper treatment. Incorporating the treatment of drug abuse into the criminal justice system helps people not to fall prey of diseases like HIV, hepatitis C, and even negative effects on social behavior and family.

This also helps people to stay away from crime and from getting imprisoned again for some offence they have committed in the influence of drugs (it is estimated that most of the crimes are done under the influence of drugs).

FBI’s Job Blitz: An Opportunity Too Unaffordable To Miss

The FBI’s new announcement of its job blitz amid the slumping economy has surprised many. However, many people are happy with the new number.

The number is big. Over 2100 of professional staff and 850 agents is not a small number; especially when it is the case with FBI.

“FBI mega hiring”, says the text in the official website of the FBI jobs.

With thousands of companies, which are on a laying off spree, what made FBI to start recruiting in such big numbers? Well, the advent of the New President can be the answer to this question.

There will be many applying for the job, but how many can make it finally? FBI recruiting has a record of starting in big numbers and end up in very limited numbers.

It may be because of the recruiting process or the training process; if you are trying into an international standard agency, can it be that easy.

Look At The Floor!

When you own a house, it is likely that each and every component of the house adds up to the totality look. Every component will be from flooring to the ceiling, the colors, the design, and everything.

How about flooring your house with extraordinary marbles and leave your walls with some cheap looking paint. How about striving for grandeur look of your house from exterior and have a grave look from interiors? It doesn’t work.

Flooring is also an important part of grand look of a house. You can decorate your wall with a painting, but how can you do that for a floor.

And we have a solution: Carpets. We still have a carpet that is been there since 5tth century BC. Carpets are serving the home decorations since that a time.

It may be not possible for everybody to buy some costly marbles for the flooring. But carpets do serve well as long as you take care of them.

Preparing Sundae on a Fine Sunday

These days I have become very popular. As you know that popularity is always assisted with busy life, I have become busy too. So busy that I have no time spend with my pet or water my plants. I even forgot what my hobbies were. So I started asking my friends to suggest me some hobby so that I can try it to be relaxed.

Cooking, one of my friends suggested. Not bad!

So I scheduled it on a fine Sunday and was well prepared. As it is Sunday I thought a Sundae will do well.

I borrowed a book which had the recipe of Hot fudge brownie Sundae.

I started preparing for it with the book open. Ice cream, chocolate, butter, condensed milk, and so on. I took these ingredients and looked into book for next step.

“Mix all the ingredients together; add two spoons of pepper and two spoons salt”, it said, “let it boil for 5 minutes”. I did it. Next step?

“Take it evenly into a bowl and microwave it…”

Then my kitchen started stinking with some strange smell. And I can’t tell you what happened next…

Moral: While cooking from a book, always watch out for pages which may turn, without your notice, of breeze.
