Teen smoking has been widely used during the years 1996 and 1997. And afterwards it started declining year to year according to the study made by monitoring the future. From the past two years smoking rate among the youth got decreased gradually. The students who used to smoke during the past years had reduced their smoking rate.

According to the study made by MTF in 2009, 20% of the high school seniors have smoked in the recent months and every one in nine is a daily smoker i.e. 11%. Even according to the study light smokers got converted into heavy smokers after completing their high schooling.

There is a progress in reduction of the teenage smoking from 1996 to 2009. Among 8th graders the percentage of smoking is being dropped by two- thirds i.e. from 21%in 1996 to 7% by 2009.
