Types of Steroids and Their effects on health

Steroids are a type of drugs and steroids are used by some of the players to get some benefits, but those have many adverse effects on health. There are three types of steroids such as anabolic, androgenic and corticosteroids. To separate the anabolic effects of the hormones from their androgenic effects, many attempts were made, but with little success. Androgenic side effects may be caused by the anabolic compounds, especially when those are used for extended periods.

Androgenic steroids: We can see the androgenic steroid effects in the development of male secondary sexual characteristics and in growth of the male reproductive tract. Androgenic steroids's effects are thickening or growth of the body's non reproductive track tissues such as bones, skeletal muscles, the vocal chords and larynx and decrease in body fat.

Corticosteroids: Group of hormones are named as corticosteroids which have a Cortisone like action. Those are man made steroids which mimic the cortisone's activity. In the body, naturally cortisone is produced, and is involved in regulating inflammation, which deals with injury. So, corticosteroids are not same as anabolic steroids.

Anabolic steroids: Commonly, these are used to reduce body fat, muscle mass because of the nitrogen-retaining effects of androgen.

Effects: There are many adverse effects on health such as: Heart attack, enlargement of the heart's left ventricle, liver cancer, oily scalp, acne and cysts, hepatitis, HIV, Physical effects like mania, homicidal ideation, delusions.
