Know About Olympic Games

The modern Olympic sports contains the summer and winter Olympic sports. There are 26 sports with 36 disciplines and nearly 300 events in summer Olympics. There are 7 sports with 15 disciplines and nearly 80 events in winter Olympics. There will be a slight change in the number and kinds of events from one Olympiad to another.
  • Origin: Old Olympic games were started in the year of 776 BC. The idea behind the Olympic is getting men together who are the best athletes from all over the Greece for every four years.
  • Symbol: The symbol of five rings was introduced in 1914 and five continents of Africa, America, Australasia, Asia and Europe are represented by five rings. There is a flag which is raised in host city and it is flown to the next host city. The main part of the Olympic games is Olympic torch and it was introduced in 1928. Torch is kept burning until the Sports will be closed. Purity, the drive for perfection and struggle for victory is symbolized by the torch.
  • Medals: There are medals for first, second and third winners of Olympic games. Medals are in Gold, Silver, Bronze medals which are awarded to winners. The each medal has the 60 mm diameter and it has at least 3 mm thickness.
  • Events: There were few events in ancient games. Gradually few changes were added for ancient Olympic games. There are wide variety games in modern Olympic games which are conducted in summer and winter seasons.
  • Competition: Players or athletes play against each other with the hope of winning the game. Athletes are supposed to play with a spirit of winning. They should play with honesty. Athletes have to meet specific requirements.
This is about Olympic sports. Many cities apply to get the permission to host the Olympic sports, as they are very popular games throughout the world.
