Know About General Purpose and Special Purpose Application Software

There are two types of application software based on the purpose of function. They are general purpose application software and special purpose application software.

General purpose application software:
General purpose application software can be used for multiple purposes. It helps the user to accomplish computer related tasks.

For example, Microsoft Excel can be used for creating spreadsheets which in turn helps to create graphs, charts and tables. Similarly, Microsoft Word can be used for creating information related to various purposes such as greetings, letters and important notes.

A general purpose software is easy to install and can be easily used by anyone.

Special purpose application software:
Specific purpose application software is designed to perform specific tasks by the user.

Examples are enterprise software, media players, accounting software, etc.

Enterprise application software is a collection of software programs that are used for specific purposes by various organizations, businesses and by government to accomplish specific tasks given by users. The functions performed by businesses with the use of application software are order processing, production scheduling, sales records, customer information management, and accounting.

Media Software is another example of application software where users play multimedia files.

With media player we can play both audio and video and sometimes only audio having a user interface depending on a specific media type.

Graphics software is a set of computer software that enables a user to manipulate and change visual images on computer.

Both the types of software are found to be contributing a lot to the businesses to organize their work better and to increase the overall productivity.
