Tips for Clothing Maintenance

Clothes can be damaged by skin cells, body oils, sweat and urine from the human body. Outside factors like sun light, moisture, abrasion and dirt etc., can also damage the clothing. While purchasing clothes one has to invest lot of time and money, it is important to maintain them properly to look good and last for a long period of time. Below are some tips to maintain the clothing in a good condition:
  • First and important factor in maintaining clothes is washing them regularly. There are many techniques available for washing. Different types of clothes require different ways of washing.
  • After washing them, the clothes should be dried and they can be dried in sunlight or with the help of electronic dryer.
  • Many modern clothes like formals or semi formals needs to be ironed to look clean, fresh and neat.
  • It is better to use good quality wooden or padded hangers to keep the clothes look good.
  • Blouses and dresses are best hung on padded hangers and skirts and trousers are clipped to hangers.
  • Garments made up of materials like silk, wool or linen should be left out for at least 24 hours to make them dry.
  • Leather shoes must be allowed to dry because they have the nature of absorbing the moisture.
  • Sweaters, cardigans and t shirts should be folded in order to avoid hanger marks and are kept on shelves or in drawers.
  • Suits must be hanged in special garment bags.
  • It is better to store the clothes in the shelves according to the color, the darker color clothes are stored at bottom and the light colored clothes at the top.

Effective maintenance makes the clothes stay longer and remain good for longer period of time.
