How to Care Your Copper Countertops?

It is not just enough to leave the countertops without maintenance once installed. Specific care should be taken to keep their appeal and function. Copper countertops are one of the elegant metal countertops which become ugly and unattractive without proper maintenance. Here is a note on how to care your copper countertops.

Kitchen Countertops
Copper surface is easily prone to scratches and dents. So, avoid dropping heavy objects suddenly on the countertop. Scratches and cuts on its surface may cause the underlying area to tarnish. So, do not cut anything directly on the copper countertop to prevent damage to the surface coating. Always use a cutting board to chop vegetables or trim the fat off your meat. Remember not to slide pans and dishes across the surface as it can scratch the surface. Re-sanding the copper surface can remove the scratches and signs of wear.

When cleaning the copper countertops, use a soft cloth and water to remove dust or stains. However, harder stains can be cleaned with mild dish soap. A daily basis cleaning is essential to keep them neat and clean. Sealers or plumber's wax should be used to prevent stains, fingerprints and water spots on the copper countertops. Avoid using metal polish as it ruins the copper's natural coloring. Also, prevent spilling of acids like lemon juice on the surface. In order to avoid discoloring of the countertops, use coasters and place mats under hot or cold items. Make sure that you know these maintenance measures before installing copper countertops to your elegant kitchen.
